Tehnopol works with UN lab to support health tech startups

Tallinn Tehnopol Science Park signed a letter of intent with the United Nations Technology Innovation Labs (UNTIL) based in Finland. Together, they hope to further explore options to shoulder startups dedicated to solving health issues, through digital innovations with special attention given to novel solutions.

The lab, located in Aalto University in Espoo, and Tehnopol agreed on joint measures to support startups that could potentially help solve health issues. UNTIL is working on frameworks for  technical support as well as mentoring opportunities for startups interested in validating/testing their digital solutions.

According to Piret Hirv, Head of the Connected Health Cluster led by science and business park Tehnopol, this is an excellent opportunity for companies belonging to the cluster. “Testing with UNTIL,” she said, “helps our companies have a say in meeting sustainable development goals and deliver on those goals through technology.”

Ahmed El Saeed, Health Thematic Lead at UNTIL Finland, described how the Finnish healthcare ecosystem is very rich and full of innovation and how companies and universities are keen to cooperate. “We are trying to build a new model of cooperation,” he explained, “that can be implemented gradually and is also suitable for companies. We must use open source and open-data concepts as we primarily aim at promoting digital public goods.”
