2023
Tehnopol Science and Business Park turned 20 years old!
The year marked a fantastic period of growth for Tehnopol. Business services and programs expanded, along with the number of new companies and employees. Tehnopol welcomed 32 new companies, demonstrating its appeal as a destination for technology firms. The green promenade project between Tehnopol and TalTech officially began its design phase, and the TestinTallinn concept was launched on the campus.
The incubator's new programs focused on various key areas. The Startup accelerator for impact companies was conducted in collaboration with LHV, while the cyber accelerator launched in the spring to support businesses in the cybersecurity sector. In June, applications for the NATO DIANA innovation accelerator, focusing on dual-use technologies, were opened. NATO DIANA's Estonian accelerator is led by Tehnopol Startup Incubator in partnership with Sparkup Tartu Science Park and Startup Wise Guys.
NATO DIANA's arrival in Estonia won the Collaboration Project award at the Tallinn City Business Awards, and Tehnopol's latest office building received an honorable mention in the Development Project category.
Tehnopol's Health Cluster (Connected Health Cluster) was recognised in the Estonian preliminaries of the Business Promotion Competition. Even though the cluster project has concluded, efforts to develop the health community and contribute to the sector remain in full swing.
Tehnopol's other business services continued supporting growth companies in health, green, and deep tech. In 2023, Tehnopol helped 16 new companies enter at least one export market and facilitated over 16 million euros in private and public capital investments. Activities also included innovation programs for large corporations, focusing on conscious investment in R&D and closer collaboration with startups and growth companies. Throughout the year, Tehnopol hosted over 150 events, fostering ongoing innovation and growth in Estonia's business environment. -
2022
We focused on supporting technology entrepreneurship and innovation, offering a wide range of services in our modern business park. We assisted around 90 growth companies, helping them launch new products, open export markets, and secure investments. In the Tehnopol Startup Incubator, we supported 84 early-stage startups, providing help with product development, market entry, and raising capital. The incubator, in collaboration with Tartu Science Park and universities, launched a health science accelerator.
In 2022, a comprehensive AI development program began, aimed at boosting business competitiveness and fostering the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI). The program includes ideation days, workshops, and an AI and robotics accelerator launched within the Startup Incubator.
Tehnopol's campus saw various infrastructure upgrades, including energy efficiency projects and the development of new commercial spaces. Through marketing activities, we raised Tehnopol's brand awareness, hosted several key events like the Greenest Summit and Kärajad, and promoted cross-border collaboration, making Tehnopol an attractive environment for technology companies in Estonia and internationally. -
2021
Tehnopol is creating an investment firm, Tehnopol Ventures, alongside its Startup Incubator to evaluate startup investment readiness and manage the equity stakes held by the incubator in various startups. Tehnopol, the University of Tartu, TalTech, and Tartu Science Park are joining forces to promote the transfer of science into business. As part of this collaboration, a pilot program called Põhjanael will launch in the fall, aimed at turning knowledge-intensive technologies into business opportunities.
In 2021, the AI & Robotics Estonia (AIRE) center was established to enhance business competitiveness through the adoption of artificial intelligence.
Tehnopol continues its role as a technology test park, introducing new features such as bike rentals, packaging recycling, and smart beehives. In a record year, Tehnopol companies secured nearly 8 million euros in private and public investment while experiencing significant revenue growth. -
2020
Despite the crisis, Tehnopol continues to grow at a rapid pace. A new eatery, Pannkoogimaja, is set to open, and the construction of a new office complex at Mäealuse 2-4 has begun. This project, due for completion in 2022, will add around 12,000 square meters of modern office space to the campus. Tehnopol is developing rapidly and is increasingly establishing itself as a test park—innovations in 2020 included a smart grocery store, e-scooters, and solar-powered pavement.
In the summer of 2020, the Science and Business Park Tehnopol and SEB founded the Innovation Leaders Club.
We revamped our incubation program, transitioning to a cohort-based system, providing practical training, strong leadership mentors, a supportive community, and an open office. We began taking equity options for helping startups to enter the market. The startups in the program have attracted over 2 million euros in investments, and the portfolio's revenue figures are also rising. Additionally, the incubator is permanently expanding to the Ida-Viru County and launching a nationwide pre-incubation program. -
2019
The year of transformation at Tehnopol. A leadership change is giving the science park a fresh perspective, helping to identify key areas for improvement in the organisation's structure and the services offered to clients. The Smart City sector is now officially added to Tehnopol's focus areas, while space technology is also receiving growing attention.
Together with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications, an innovation accelerator called Accelerate Estonia is being launched. Over the course of a year, Tehnopol is set to grow its technology companies' revenue by 12 million euros. -
2018

2017
A new office building complex of 7500 m2 at Mäealuse 2/2 will be completed in the campus, one of its anchor tenants is the Information Technology and Development Center of the Ministry of the Interior. New restaurant, beauty salon, massage and carwash open their doors. Construction begins at the heart of the city to open a new large sports club.

2015
Tehnopol continues with renovations to the remaining blocks of the Cybernetics building. Work starts on an extensive renewal project during which the entire campus will receive a makeover. Investment plans foresee renovation and environmental improvement works on Blocks 3-6 of the Cybernetics building. The goal is to turn Tehnopol into a modern and intelligent campus that is the preferred base and meeting place for innovative companies, scientists and students.

2013
The first stage of the renovations to the Cybernetics building – the cornerstone of the Science Park – are launched, including a new look for Block 1. In recent years the Cybernetics building has hosted innovative businesses and has been a launching pad for companies such as Skype Technologies and Cybernetica. Reconstruction aims to preserve the dignified quality of the building and at the same time turn it into a place of inspiration for new companies.

2010
Tehnopol signs construction cooperation contracts with YIT Construction and Astlanda Construction. The contracts define the construction of two new office and laboratory buildings. These two real estate developments will be accomplished in 2012 and add up more than 20 000 square meters of high quality space.

The detail plan of Tehnopol real estate development is approved. According to the detail plan Tehnopol is starting to demolish old buildings and start constructing new ones.

2004
Tallinn University of Technology Innovation Centre foundation was united with Tallinn Technology Park development foundation. Tallinn Technology Park development foundation started to overtake the assets and buildings. The Park started to operate with the assets. Tehnopol was taken into everyday use as the trademark of Tallinn Technology Park development foundation.

The Government of Estonia, Tallinn University of Technology and the city of Tallinn founded the Tallinn Technology Park development foundation.

2002
The business plan and founding documents of Tallinn Technology Park were drawn. Tallinn University of Technology Innovation Centre foundation and the city of Tallinn opened a business incubator building for starting companies and business ideas. Four companies started operating in new building.
