Join the free movie night on this Thursday: “The Riddle of Jaan Niemand” (with subtitles!)
On the 25th of October you can be part of a free movie night in Tehnopol and watch “The Riddle of Jaan Niemand”, which was made as part of the Estonia 100 celebrations.
This movie is a mystery inspired by the dire times following the Great Northern War. The people have been aggrieved by years of war, famine and plague. The main character of this mysterious story is Jaan (Meelis Rämmeld), a man found on the seashore. Jaan doesn’t remember his own past. He’s as much a stranger to himself as to the people around him.
Perchance, Jaan ends up living with a Baron (Andres Lepik) in a local manor house where a horrible crime recently took place. As time passes, hints at the enigmatic stranger’s past and deeds start to emerge. What do you do when you turn out to be someone who you don’t want to be?
The author of the film is Kaur Kokk, a recent graduate of the Baltic Film and Media School whose short films have stood out at international film festivals. “The Riddle of Jaan Niemand” is his feature film debut.
“The Riddle of Jaan Niemand” is produced by the production company behind the prize-winning films “November” and “Autumn Ball”. The film’s producer is Katrin Kissa and the cinematographer is Mart Taniel who received the American Society of Cinematographers’ prestigious Spotlight Award in 2018.
