TFTAK wants to contribute more to improving Estonian peoples’ health
TFTAK (Centre of Food and Fermentation Technologies), a new member of the Connected Health cluster, offers research and development services to businesses in the food and biotechnology industries. Their future plans include finding partners to promote the health of Estonian people.
TFTAK conducts research demonstrating the impact of food components or product prototypes on gut microbiome, blood counts and other health indicators. The results of these studies confirm that the developed products are actually healthy and support the principles of a balanced diet. For example, they have evaluated the impact of yoghurt fortified with fibre and probiotic bacteria and are currently studying the health impact of functional smoothies. TFTAK helps companies bring services and products that have scientifically proven benefits to the market.
Developing a health account platform
At the moment, TFTAK is also working on developing a so-called health account platform with Elsavie and NetGroup. The platform will give people the opportunity to manage their health data and use that information when making their daily choices in order to improve their health.
The company has been focused on studying and describing the relationship between food, the gut microbiome and health for over 10 years. With their partner enterprises, TFTAK has brought various functional foods and drinks to the market in order to help all consumers make healthy choices while grocery shopping. They have also developed vitamins, flavoured water with minerals and proteins, yoghurts with fibre and ready-made foods for a quick healthy lunch.
Working together to improve peoples’ health
In the future, the company wants to find more partners to help them promote the health of Estonian people. Their ambition is to make healthy food and diet a logical part of preventing health issues. For this, it is important to bring together all the links in the chain: consumers/patients, the medical system, diet specialists and dietary education providers, scientific institutions, food manufacturers and policy shapers.
A big step in the near future will be moving into a larger, brand new laboratory at Tehnopol campus in order to do scientific and development work even more effectively.
One of the main reasons for joining the Connected Health cluster was to be in the same information space in the field of health so that we can all put our heads together and better integrate health topics into our activities.
