Tallinn Science Park Tehnopol, Cellin Technologies, Protobios, Reconstructive Surgery Clinic, Kevelt and Medco Partners signed a consortium agreement to establish a cell therapy laboratory according to the GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards to Tehnopol.
The laboratory will be used by cell therapy and regenerative (field of medicine that deals with the ability of an organism to re-generate itself) public- and private companies, hospitals and clinical medical authorities, which are dealing with medical applications.
Biolaborid Ltd, board member Tanel Paut, said that the cell therapy laboratory represents a unique half industrial laboratory in the Baltics. "Building the laboratory in Tehnopol allows universities and businesses to make regenerative medicine tests, to use high-tech labs for teaching students and in producing cells and tissues. This is a great value for both, to the university and companies, "said Paut.
A board member of Tehnopol, Pirko Konsa, sees creation of laboratory as a big step, which combines real science and business. "These semi-industrial laboratories in Science Park is the direction towards which we move. We want Tehnopol to become a real crossroad of science and business, "said Konsa.
The European Union's structural funds have invested 650 000 EUR in establishing this laboratory and it will be completed by the end of 2011.
